NIWL Welcomes Dr. Sharika Bhattacharya

Sharika Bhattacharya, Ph.D. recently joined NIWL as a Research Officer. Dr. Bhattacharya received her B.S. (magna cum laude) in Psychology from University of Maryland, College Park in 2003, and her Ph.D. in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Education in 2009. She has worked on a variety of research projects relevant to NIWL's focus areas, including studies of teacher professional development, achievement factors for low income high school students, and state standards for classroom materials. Sharika has a wide range of research skills and experience; including collecting data from students, parents, teachers, and counselors; managing research projects, including the IRB process; and coding and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data (using Nvivo and SPSS software, respectively). Finally, she brings to this position excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail and to the collaborative process, and a particular interest in race and cultural influences in education policy and reform.
